Mount Baker, November 26, 1859

  [p.333]      ... Mount Baker, a short distance south of the international boundary line, showed a spurt of energy. The passengers by the steamer from New Westminster to Victoria, on the 26th November, reported that volcanic peak to be seen in a state of active eruption, "puffing out large volumes of smoke, which upon breaking, rolled down the snow-covered sides of the mountain, forming a pleasing effect of light and shade." ...
