University of South Florida Geology Department:

The University of Florida's Geology Department is a growing graduate program, with more than 50 graduate students, including 15 doctoral candidates, supported by 14 Geology Faculty members. The Department offers excellent support for graduate students in the form of Research Assistantships, Teaching Assistantships, and Graduate Fellowships. Our students work all over the world on diverse geology and geophysics projects. Areas of special strength within the Geology Department include these specialty tracks:
- Hydrogeology, Ecohydrology, and Environmental Geochemistry
- Karst Group
- Volcano Group
- Coastal Group
- Environmental Geophysics
- Geoscience Education
- Paleontology and Paleoclimate
The Volcano Group is a multi-disciplinary group of scientists dedicated to the understanding of volcanic processes, their impact on people, and mitigation of volcanic hazards. The department of Geology at the University of South Florida offers graduate degree programs at the M.S. and Ph.D. level for prospective volcanology students. Our department features tracks in physical volcanology, petrology and geochemistry, geophysical of volcanic systems.
