INFORMATION STATEMENT
October 24, 1997

This morning at 07:29 PDT another avalanche occurred on the east side of Mount Adams. The seismic signal from this event was significantly smaller than the signal associated with the 10/20/97 avalanche. Preliminary reports from local residents indicated that the new avalanche deposit, which is visible as dark streaks on the earlier deposit, is much smaller than the 10/20 deposit and traveled about half the distance of the 10/20 event.
