CASCADES VOLCANO OBSERVATORY WEEKLY UPDATE

CASCADE RANGE VOLCANOES
Activity Update: All volcanoes in the Cascade Range are at normal levels of background seismicity. These include Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams in Washington State; Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Sisters, Newberry Volcano, and Crater Lake, in Oregon; and Medicine Lake volcano, Mount Shasta, and Lassen Peak in northern California. Mount St. Helens has been at Volcano Alert Level NORMAL (Aviation Color Code GREEN) since July 10, 2008.
Recent Observations: Monitoring data show that activity at Cascades Range volcanoes has remained at background levels during the past week; though some stations reflect the intense storms of the past several days.

Recent Observations: Monitoring data indicate activity of Cascades Range volcanoes has remained at background levels during the past week. As part of normal, background activity, two clusters of small earthquakes were observed. At Mount Hood, five earthquakes with a maximum magnitude of 2.1 occurred along the west side of the volcano. Twenty-five kilometers south of Mount Lassen, a small swarm of earthquakes occurred with a maximum magnitude of 2.5 during the past week.

As part of normal background activity, a cluster of small earthquakes was observed at Mount Hood. Four earthquakes with a maximum magnitude of 1.6 occurred along the west and south sides of the volcano. |
