CASCADES VOLCANO OBSERVATORY WEEKLY UPDATE
Friday, March 5, 2010 8:53 AM PST (Friday, March 5, 2010 16:53 UTC)
CASCADE RANGE VOLCANOES
Activity Update: All volcanoes in the Cascade Range are at normal levels of background seismicity. These include Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams in Washington State; Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Sisters, Newberry Volcano, and Crater Lake, in Oregon; and Medicine Lake volcano, Mount Shasta, and Lassen Peak in northern California. Mount St. Helens has been at Volcano Alert Level NORMAL (Aviation Color Code GREEN) since July 10, 2008.
Recent Observations: Volcano seismicity and deformation remained at background levels in the Cascades Range during the past week.

Recent Observations: Volcano seismicity and deformation remained at background levels in the Cascade Range during the past week. A swarm consisting of tens of small earthquakes (maximum magnitude 1.7)was detected near Lassen Peak during the night of March 10 to 11 (PST). The earthquakes occurred in five bursts, each 10-20 minutes long. Swarms such as this are part of the typical background activity in the Lassen area.
