Spirit Lake Camera
The Spirit Lake "VolcanoCam" was developed by Winston Stokes and placed in the field on June 29, 2005. The system is mounted on the roof of the U.S. Geological Survey's gage house by the tunnel inlet at Spirit Lake. The camera is approximately five and one half miles from Mount St. Helens volcano and just catches a glimpse of the Mount St. Helens crater and dome. An Olympus D-540 digital camera was modified to be controlled by a Campbell CR-10 data logger and is currently programmed to take an image every two hours. Power is supplied by an existing solar panel and voltage regulator. The following collection is a sampling from over 1,000 images taken between June 29 and September 23, 2005. Not all the images were selected for their view of the dome. Some are simply interesting and/or dramatic.
