Geologic setting of the Three-Sisters-Mount Bachelor area within the upper
Miocene to Holocene High Cascades (stippled border). The Western Cascades are
composed of upper Eocene to middle Miocene volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks.
The parts of the Columbia Plateau and Basin and Range physiographic provinces
shown on the map are composed dominantly of Tertiary volcanic and sedimentary
rocks; Quaternary volcanic rocks cover most of the area near Newberry volcano.
