1994 Washington State Hydrologic Summary

Total precipitation during the 1994 water year was about 75 percent of normal in western Washington and about 69 percent of normal in eastern Washington. The total precipitation for the water year ranged between about 64 and 83 percent of normal throughout the State. Precipitation during November was the farthest below normal for a month when the monthly total was about 35 percent of normal in western Washington and about 24 percent of normal in eastern Washington. Monthly precipitation was the farthest above normal during June in western Washington and during April in eastern Washington, when monthly totals were about 127 and 122 percent of normal, respectively.

Rainfall in western Washington was less than 75 percent of normal during the months of October, November, January, May, July, and August. It was near normal during December, February, March, and April, and was more than 125 percent of normal during June.

In eastern Washington precipitation was less than 75 percent of normal during the months of October November, January, March, July, August, and September. It was near normal during December, February, April, May, and June.

The annual mean runoff was below normal throughout Washington during the 1994 water year.

During the 1994 water year, no significant flood events occurred in Washington. In western Washington some minor flooding occurred in coastal river basins on December 10. Peak flows during this event had recurrence intervals of 10 years or less. (A peak flow that has a recurrence interval of five years can be expected to be exceeded once in five years on the average).
